9th May, 2018 - Euphoria

PH Rally in Duyong, Melaka.
As long as I live, I will NEVER ever forget the days of 9th &10th May, 2018 in my life. A day of triumph and joy. I guess, I must admit that as rolled down my cheeks at about 4.00am on 10th May, 2018, I felt a sense of relief, a sense of achievement and a sense of being a great Malaysian again. Yes, a day whereby Pakatan Harapan candidates all across Malaysia brought down the historical legacy of Barisan Nasional, the ruling party of 61 years. I guess, for many of us, it was virtually an impossible to lodge such a rich and historical force but at the end of the day, the RAKYAT triumphs! What was deemed as impossible became a reality for many of us who had harbored the hopes of a new Malaysia. I speak for myself when I say that for years, I am appalled by the amount of corrupt practises, deplorable racist practises and even the amount of financial drains from failed and cheating programs all to feed the greedy and somehow corrupt leaders of the government of the day.
Early breakfast.....at Warong Nordin...

Never a day, we prayed and petition to the One Above for a change and never a day goes as swearing and curses passed through our lips despite our fervent hope unto God's intervention. I must admit that I am one of those weak ones who allowed curses and swearing passed through my lips despite knowing in faith that it is God who determines what He wants to do for Malaysia. Indeed, all these years, God had raised up many leaders in the Opposition team in His wings and the young leaders slowly bloomed into hardworking, dedicated and honourable men and women of faith. I must admit that I am one of those with lack of faith but somehow, I did what I could to help garner support for a change in the political scenario in this country. I used the electronic media. I spoke to colleagues and I do what I could for the Opposition in great hope for a change in this nation. The main agenda of my involvement was for a great change in this nation especially in leadership and to ensure a brighter/honest future for my children and children's children. I started out by writing about the campaign on #Undi Rosak movement by putting my view that it was a coward action if we can't even decide the government with just two ballot papers in our hands. It is madness that we can complaint about our difficulties in life, foamed in our mouths when we talk of corruption and corrupt practises and even deal with racism from all levels of governance but we would not lift a finger to do anything with our ballot papers except to spoil them? This to me was madness by young people. ( of all people! ) Yeah, I was mad and I was mad as hell. It was then that I decided that I would attend political dinners, talks and rallies. I want to see the honesty of the candidates who are going to rule this State and the country as a whole.
Did our duties.......and feel good.

There started my quests to see the potentiality of change happening and the wave of support for the Pakatan Harapan candidates. I noted that most candidates are young, able and professional candidates but still raw in their oratory skills but you could see their zeal, enthusiasm and honesty in wanting to see a change in this nation. It was heartening and positive support that quickened my heart that a change is imminent. This was proven right with the results that flowed in via electronic media that the storm of change is here ; led by a 93 year old seasoned politician, Tun Dr. Mahathir. As I stood at the rally held on 4th May, 2018 at Taman Bukit Piatu Mutiara, Melaka, I could see the sea of people  from all races and all walks of life supporting Pakatan Harapan candidates. Though I was confident of a win for Pakatan Rakyat, I was still skeptical if the PH candidates could form the new government. I must be honest that it looked positive but yet the mentality of "being too long in the Opposition field" soon crept in again.

As the days goes by prior to the Polling Day, I could not help but reminded by YB Rafizi Ramli's strong message that we must shirk our "losing" mentality to a winning mentality and not be bullied down by our oppressors all these years. I guess, that work wonders and there was just no looking back. Polling Day,  SLing and I wore red and armed with our positive outlook, we voted and did our duty. It was heartening to see Malaysians of all walks of life, races and colors, young and old lined up , passing tissue papers to one another and helped one another to the Salurans. It was also heartening to hear Malaysians returning from Australia, UK, Singapore and all the parts of the world to vote this time. That was heartening indeed.
One of the exciting young candidate, Sdr. Kerk Chee Yee

The family decided to have a quick dinner for the day and wait for the GE14 results. Yes, we waited and waited and waited. At the end of the night, only SLing and I were awake as we were glued to Astro Awani waiting for results after results but they were slow and demoralising indeed as panelists spoke of tsunami of Malay voters and so on. To me, it wasn't a Malay tsunami but a MALAYSIAN tsunami that day. When the results came in that Pakatan Harapan had secured enough seats to form the next government, I was elated, filled with joy and relief. It was already 4.00am in the morning of 10th May, 2018. SLing was asleep while my children, JWee and SYuen  were also asleep. I was at my bed on the floor and I couldn't help it as tears rolled down my face. The Rakyat had spoken for a change. It couldn't have come at a better time when most of us had lost hope on reforms in this country but somehow, Heavenly intervention had made this a real miracle for Malaysia landscape. We dare hope again! We have hope again!

As the euphoria of gladness and the sweet taste of victory swept across the country, I believed that many of us had gone down on our knees thanking the One Above for hearing our prayers in our respective faith. I closed my eyes and thought of all the legends who had fought so hard to keep our beloved country, Malaysia alive. Legends like Tun Dr. Mahathir, Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sdr. Lim Kit Siang, the late Karpal Singh, Lim Guan Eng, P.Patto, Chen Man Hin, the late Nik Aziz, Rafizi Ramli, Ambiga, the late Teoh Beng Hock and all the unsung heroes, the ordinary folks who had to pay the price for their fight against corruption, power abuse and malpractices of governance. Tears flow down freely that morning but it was tears of joy that good had triumphed over evil as people stood up and translated those votes into winning votes for Pakatan Harapan candidates. I am glad that the Rakyat had come together for a common good for the people and restore the credibility of a government of the people, by the people and for the people! We voted for a clean, transparent and honest government that day.

At last, democracy has its say this time. Having said all this, we must be quick to re-build our beloved country, Malaysia and close ranks amongst our politicians and the rakyats. We need to heal our land, heal bruised and battered hearts and healed relationships to re-build a better Malaysia. Our work has just begun. Let's work together to re-build Malaysia from the brink of destruction and endless plundering. Let justice prevail as we built Malaysia that we love.
